5S Understanding and Implementation Course Content:

1-PROGRAMME SUMMARY

– The ‘5S’ system is part of the Japanese ‘lean’ methodology of Kaizen, which is used to organize workplaces to make them more efficient, effective and safe.

– We explain how the ‘5S’ system can be used to help streamline professional processes and boost production in offices and manufacturing environments.

– The ‘5S’ system uses the following five Japanese words: ‘seiri’ (sort), ‘seiton’ (set in order), ‘seisō’ (shine), ‘seiketsu’ (standardization) and ‘shitsuke’ (sustain). It draws on the ideas under each letter to inspire a more constructive organizational culture.

 – The course explores the history of Kaizen and the ‘5S’ and investigates the implementation of similar housekeeping concepts across various industries. .

 – Gain an understanding in the purpose and benefits behind the 5S methodology. Learn how to explain the 5S standard and how to use it to organize your workplace to create a clean, safe, orderly, high-performance work environment that promotes efficiency.

 – Build a foundation for lean culture by embracing 5S as part of the way work is done. Learners will explore the fundamentals of 5S, including its purpose, how it relates to lean, and its benefits.

 – This course will walk through the five standards of the 5S approach: sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain. Learners will also have an opportunity to practice 5S with an interactive scenario that walks through each standard.

                                    • How to designate “a place for everything” and ensure “everything is in its place.”
                                    • Considerations for establishing locations for storing items including: storage rationale, storage options, location-specific tips, storage don’ts, using signs and labels and documenting the plan
                                  
                   4-Shine: Cleanliness and Workplace Appearance
                                    • The three aspects of Shine: getting the workplace clean, maintaining its appearance, and using preventive measures to keep it clean
                                    
                   5-Standardize: Everyone Doing Things the Same Way
                                     • How to design systems that helps ensure that everyone does things the same way with full involvement, standardized training, and a “copy exactly” mindset

                   6-Sustain: Ingrain It in the Culture
