Cyber Security (Level 1) Practical Training Course

Course Overview:
This Level 1 Cyber Security course is designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on skills and foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles. The training emphasizes practical exercises, interactive labs, and real-world case studies to equip students with the essential tools to identify, mitigate, and respond to basic cyber threats.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the core principles of cybersecurity.
- Identify common cyber threats and attack vectors.
- Apply fundamental tools and techniques to secure systems and networks.
- Understand basic concepts of ethical hacking and penetration testing.
- Implement basic security measures to protect digital assets.

- Undergraduate students (IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or any technical field).
- Beginners with little or no background in cybersecurity.

- What is Cybersecurity?
- CIA Triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability)
- Real-world cyber-attack examples
- Lab: Simulate a phishing email scenario
- Day 2:
- Understanding Malware (viruses, worms, trojans)
- Attack lifecycle
- Lab: Malware sandbox analysis (simulation)
Network Fundamentals & Security Basics
- Day 3:
- Networking 101 (IP, DNS, ports, protocols)
- Common vulnerabilities (open ports, weak configurations)
- Lab: Packet analysis using Wireshark
- Day 4:
- Firewalls and IDS/IPS
- Network segmentation
- Lab: Configure a basic firewall on a virtual machine
System Security
- Day 5:
- Operating system security (Windows/Linux)
- User permissions and privilege escalation
- Lab: Hardening a Linux system (basic)
- Day 6:
- Patch management and software updates
- Secure file systems
- Lab: Perform OS updates and disable unnecessary services
Web and Application Security
- Day 7:
- Web application architecture
- OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities (overview)
- Lab: Explore SQL Injection on a test website
- Day 8:
- Cross-site scripting (XSS), CSRF, input validation
- Secure coding principles
- Lab: Simulate and patch XSS on a sample app
Ethical Hacking & Defense Strategies
- Day 9:
- Introduction to penetration testing
- Phases: Recon, scanning, exploitation, post-exploitation
- Lab: Conduct a vulnerability scan using open-source tools (e.g., Nmap, OpenVAS)
- Day 10:
- Defense in depth
- Security policies and user awareness
- Lab: Implement group policies and simulate phishing response
Final Project
